The dress code for Royal Ascot is dependent on which enclosure you will be in. The flavour is overwhelmingly formal and for the Royal Enclosure specifically, quite prescriptive. The specific dress code rules are as follows:
Royal Enclosure
Morning Dress required.
It is a requirement to wear either black or grey morning dress including a waistcoat and tie, with a top hat and black shoes.
A waistcoat and tie must be worn. Cravats are not accepted.
All gentlemen in the Royal Enclosure should wear a top hat. The customisation of top hats (with, for example, coloured ribbons or bands) is not permitted in the Royal enclosure.
Black shoes are compulsory.
If you are ordering a top hat online, you will need to be able to collect and return your suit to store.
Grandstand, Silver Ring, Heath Enclosure
Gentlemen in the Grandstand are required to wear a suit with a shirt and tie. Grandstand admission race-goers are also welcome to follow the Royal Enclosure dress code.
In the Silver Ring and Heath Enclosure race-goers are encouraged to wear smart clothes, please note that replica sports shirts are not permitted.
