The red of the Stewart Royal tartan is probably the most well recognised Scottish tartan across the globe. The Stewart family records show they were granted extensive estates in Renfrewshire and East Lothian and the office of High Steward was made hereditary in the family. Queen Anne decreed that any Englishman could wear the this royal tartan for a regal look.
